hmm not bad you know much stuffs yeah....
the reason PS took about 30sec as you told(mind took 10-depending on your current computer load, your HDD buffer and such)is because that PS loads lots of plugins, if you notice, GIMP uses lesser plugins than PS, that's why PS load lot slower than GIMP ...
