The film he already lost. Lawliet wrote his name on the Death Note before Rem does, thus Lawliet would die 23 days later in peace. Ryuk did not betray Light. He said "Those that rely on me have no good in the end", and it was also the end of Light's lifespan.

In the manga/anime, which is the real story. L died and M & N a.k.a Mello and Near came to the story and helped to solve the investigation, Mello died but Near didn't. At the last episode, Light was caught as Near replaced 1 page of the Death Note. The 4th Kira was fooled and wrote on that page. Thus all didn't die. The name that wasn't written on that page was Kira. But in the end, Ryuk killed Light but with a different tone. He said "Nice knowing you Light, I had much fun".

I thought Ryuk wrote Light's name on the notebook?

Yes, in both film and manga/anime, it was Ryuk that killed Light. But they were in different tone. In the film, it was something like betray, but in the anime it was like, ryuk did not want to kill Light. But Light lifespan should end. If ryuk did not kill Light, ryuk will die.

so ryuk caused light lifespan to shorten cause he gave him a notebook? But I thought only the deathgod will die if he used the deathnote to save a life. He would not die if he did nothing. I mean, if like that ah, all deathgod die if ryuk no kill light?

A death god cannot kill its own owner unless his/her lifespan is about to end.

he means why ryuk need to kill light. The shinigami would only die if it use the death note to save a life, not if it decide to do nothing. Afterall, who knows? LIght might have died of a sudden cardiac arrest without any death note causing it, thus his lifespan!
