[Tutorial] Making a Realistic Sky Picture

Hello guys!, today i'm showing you how to make a realistic Sky Picture using only effects in photoshop, you don't need to draw or type anything, this is an easy tutorial, i learned it a while ago and like i said, is very easy to make it, this is my result:

Image

But well, let's start with it:

1. Creating the file: We will make a new document, size of your choice, i made it to be 1000x600 px, set the background color as white and the resolution to 300 pixels/inch, oh and don't forget to set it as a RGB Color Mode.

Image

Sorry for the language, but i speak spanish and it is easier for me in that language.

2. Starting the Sky: Set the foreground color to #a5cccc or a close color to it and your background color to #5ebbd6, and make a gradient that goes from the bottom to the top of your canvas in a straight line, this should be a linear gradient:

Image

We will make a new layer, and name it clouds if you want to, then we press the 'D' on our keyboard to reset our selected colors to Black and White, and now we go to Filter > Render > Clouds, after this is done, we set our 'Clouds' layer's blend mode to Screen:

Image

3. Layer Mask: Click your 'Clouds' layer on the Layers panel and click on the 'Add Layer Mask' button, on the bottom of your Layers panel, then again go to Filter > Render > Clouds, it will be like this now:

Image

4. Curves plz: To make the colors look a little more realistic, we will adjust the curves of our picture, select your 'Clouds' layer and selec the original layer, not the Mask by clicking the thumb, then bring up the Curves dialog hitting Ctrl+M on your keyboard (for Mac users, this is Command+M), and make the line go like this:

Image

5. Levels?: No, you will not kill monsters on this tutorial, and by the way, you are about to finish!, now we do our next step, select the Mask thumbnail on your 'Clouds' layer in the Layers panel, and then press Ctrl+L (again, for Mac users is Command+L) to make the Levels dialog pop-up on your screen, then set the contrast and numbers like in the next image:

Image

6. Blur and Sun: I'm srs lol, you're about to finish, this is the final step, so calm down and do it EXACTLY AS IT SHOWS HERE... i jk, but put attention on this.

With your Mask thumbnail in the 'Clouds' Layer selecter, go to Filter > Blur > Radial Blur and put this settings: Ammount 50, Blur Method: Zoom and Quality: Of your choice, but i suggest Good, it will look like this:

Image

Now create a new Layer and name it 'Sun' and then fill it with Black selecting the Paint Bucket tool, when you finish this, go to Filter > Render > Lens Flare and set Brightness to 175, click on 50-300mm Zoom Lens and place the Flare center where you want the sun to be, i'm going to put it in the Right Top Corner:

Ok, this is the final Step, set the Layer blend mode to Screen and you're done!:

I hope you guys liked it, it is very simple and basic (i was teached in Jr. High School to make it) but it is beautiful and very realistic.

I'm going to make more of this tutorials, so stay tuned for more... but in a while.
