Mine is nvidia 9600
On my Phenom II x940
It uses Sapphire RadeonHD 4850 512MB GDDR3 DX10.1 + RadeonHD3300(AMD 790GX chipset IGP)

On my old Pentium 4 2.6GHz HT, it uses Sapphire Radeon 9600.

My Sapphire RadeonHD 4850 can play full HD x264 video and the CPU load like 0-3% only(4 CPU @ 0.8GHz).
My Pentium 4 2.6GHz play the same video, it lag like mad. Slow motion some more.

I am now using windows 7 RTM.
It works well but you must have fast RAM and strong CPU.

Without that you will get a very bad lag.

You need at lease DDR2/DDR3 800MHz Dual Channel and a Triple Core or a high end Dual Core like C2D 8400 or Phenom II x2 550.

If you are getting windows 7, get a CPU support virtualization. Once you have those, you will have the best Windows 7 experience.

GPU get one which support UVD technology as it will provide 0% CPU usage when playing x264,h264,wmv,MPEG 1/2 and BluRay video.
