thank you both very much for the explaination :) i searched it on google and read some stuff about it. seemed alot simpler without all the technical stuff into it haha .. another question, erm, is dual booting reversible ? i mean, like u said, it might not know which OS to boot from, sounds like an "uh-oh" situation lol ..

erm, i have 2 HDDs, actually, i think thats 3. i have a C drive, D drive and a G drive, with both D and G having 200GB of space each. since u mentioned that my disk space will empty quickly due to it running 2 OS. so does having extra HDDs bring another solution ?

erm, i read a guide off google, that says that there's like a program to make another partition using GParted.
Beware that you need a CPU with AMD64/EM64T/VIA x86_64 support also 2GB for RAM.
What if i don't have an AMD ?

haha, thanks again. glad i can learn something :)

yes, dual boot is reversible, IF you have an uh-oh situation where you cannot boot any of the OS-es, you can use your installer disk to delete the partition or to reformat it

yes, more HDD space is the solution, but since you're running ONLY FOR MAPLE HACKING PURPOSES, so 50GB might do the job, GParted partitioning is through Windows, which is fool proof, (i think) and has better GUI for you to learn more about partitioning

i'm not sure about your 3rd question, BUT, the only thing is that you need a CPU that can run your OS because the normal CPU we're using calculates and processes programs under the 32bit architecture(correct me if i'm wrong)

Your computer must be one of the following:

Intel:
Pentium 4 LGA775 Prescott with EM64T support (52X and above)
Pentium D
Pentium Dual-Core
Core2 Solo
Core2duo
Core2Quad
Atom
Xeon with EM64T

AMD:
AMD Atlon 64
AMD Athlon II
AMD Phenom
AMD Phenom II
AMD Turion 64
AMD Turion Ultra
AMD Samperon 64
Opteron 64
Opteron Third generation

VIA:
VIA Nano

On AMD64 base windows (AMD64, Intel EM64T,VIA 64) can run both 32bits and 64bits programs. Intel Itanium (IA64) will not able to run 32bit program.

mine is
Pentium(R) D CPU 3.00GHz
2.99Ghz, 1.00GB of RAM

so its a pentium D right ?

erm, u said my comp needs 2 partition. to create another partition, is this guide complete ? http://www.techspot.com/guides/143-dual-boot-windows7/

is it possible to install the 2nd OS into another HDD instead of my C ? since u said it will fill space fast ..

many thanks to the both of u again ! :)

1GB of ram is very risky for a x64 windows
x64 windows uses more ram.

Windows 7 windows vista both need 2GB of ram to respond well. Windows vista may need 3GB to run well. Last choice is XP 64. XP AMD64 can also hack.

thanks izenna for explaining. i searched for it and found SP2 xp pro x64 links.

however, i searched for the system req, and it says
Warning - Windows XP Professional x64 Edition cannot be successfully installed on x86 (32-bit) systems or 64-bit Intel Itanium-based systems. 32-bit device drivers are not supported on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.

what does it really mean?
