The Astronomy Thread

Post by Boredness »

A thread whereby we shall discuss Astronomy.
Stictly no off-topic posts.
Each day i'll give a question, and we shall debate about it.

Today's question (05/09/09)
Are there anything thing in the universe that is faster than the speed of light?

My point of view
Yes, i believed so. Light travells at 3x10^8 m/s ...In diamond it is only 1/3 of that speed...I believed there are some things faster than light but we don't even know caz it's too fast!

Hm.. i found this somewhere while searching on my science project last time[:
still glad i still had the links in my science project's credits part.
Many things can travel faster than light. Like any electromagnetic wave, light's speed is dependant on the medium through which it is traveling. For example, in the Rowland Institute for Science in Cambridge, a few scientists managed to get light to travel at 38 miles per hour by making a pulse of it travel through a bunch of atoms named a "Bose-Einstein condensate" that were frozen down to a chilly fifty-billionths of a degree above absolute zero. My car can go faster than that. Well, I mean, if I had a car, it could go faster than that.

THIS IS A LIE.
Light is a matter. If you went to university, they say light is dunno what proton stuff. pack of proton?
Since its a matter, if it moves slowly, and a billion of them at the time...OMG man, it will crash to man...Wouldn't we should alr be extinct?
